Protecting Your Vision
Good vision is something we often take for granted, and it's something we should be more diligent about protecting!  There are lots of ways you can support good vision:  Diet, Supplements, Wearing Protective Eyewear, to name a few. 

One of the things we must learn to balance for our overall health, is focusing on the whole body and how our vision is part of the whole.  Just like with our essential oils - the "whole chemistry profile" is important for a safe an effective essential oil; our eyes and how we protect them (or not) affects the whole body!  

One example of that is the overuse of sunglasses!  Some morning sunlight is crucial for us to have a good circadian rhythm (think sleep), as well as a healthy production of melatonin.  Sunlight exposure helps with the body's production of serotonin, the "happy hormone" (which also affects melatonin).  Here's a great article that goes into more detail.  Also, pay attention to the part about "blue light" and its harmful effects on the eyes.  It's important in this day and age, when everyone is on their computer and staring at phones all the time, to wear blue light blocking eye wear.

As far as Diet and Supplements, there is a lot we can do to protect the eyes and our vision.  As mentioned in past articles, all supplements are not created equal, so be sure to dig deep and know your source.  According to WebMD, Vitamins C and E, zinc, lutein, zeaxanthin and omega-3 fatty acids all play a role in eye health.

I also use blue light blocking glasses while I'm on the computer and watching TV.  I don't wear sunglasses except when driving or sitting in direct sunlight on my face.  Of course, if you live in an area that is known for its sun exposure extremes, you will want to wear sunglasses more often. 

Whatever you decide to do to protect your vision, be diligent and know that it's worth it!
